A low pressure formed over south Bangladesh and adjoining north Bay of Bengal and West Bengal has turned into a 'well-marked low-pressure system' on Wednesday morning, informed Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a low pressure area formed over North Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood will bring heavy rainfall for Odisha till August 1.
The IMD has also warned fishermen not to venture into North Bay of Bengal between July 28 and 30
IMD has predicted heavy rains in Odisha as a low pressure is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around July 28.
For IMD, heavy rainfall is between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm, very heavy rain 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm, and extremely heavy rainfall above 204.4 mm.
Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur in 18 districts of Odisha in next 24 hours
The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in one or two places in the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore in the next 24 hours.
Among the big states, only Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Kerala are the states that have received deficient rainfall this monsoon (as of July 23)
Under the influence of the system, widespread light to moderate rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall activity is likely to occur at several parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.
Due to the low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal and neighborhood, many parts of the State have been receiving light to moderate rainfall since the last two days.
Though the Earth Networks' report didn't show any let-up signs as far as the lightning strike intensity is concerned, in terms of dangerous thunderstorm alerts, Odisha saw a massive 70 per cent drop
The Regional Met Centre has also issued an advisory regarding heavy rain in the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in the next 24 hours.
Between 3-9 pm, a thunderstorm is predicted to strike the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Kendrapada-Bhadrak, Gajapati, Kandhamal-Rayagada and Jharsuguda
Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area has formed today over the North West Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood.
In just a span of the next 36-hours, a low-pressure area will develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal, and in subsequent 12 hours, the system moving west-northwest will cross Odisha on July 23. The system will induce very heavy rainfall, including thunderstorms, across the State on Friday
