IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said though several parts of Odisha received rainfall on August 15, the intensity of rainfall activity decreased due to the weakening of the low pressure system which had brought the clouds.
People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike, said IMD.
The Odisha government on Monday chalked out a comprehensive action plan to tackle any emerging drought situation in the State which appears increasingly imminent in the wake of an acute deficit in precipitation this season.
As per APEC Climate Centre seasonal forecast, Odisha is predicted to record above-normal rainfall in the range of 1.2mm/day over the normal rainfall in the month of October
In Odisha, the actual SPI of Jajpur and Bhadrak is estimated at (-)3.12 and (-)2.76, respectively. While it is over (-)2 in Keonjhar, a high of 11 other districts have a value of more than (-)1. In the rest of the 16 districts, the value is negative but below (-)1
The weather bureau predicted light to moderate rain or thundershower at many places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and at a few places over the rest districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.

A Yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been sounded for Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
As per IMD, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over 9 districts - Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj in the next 24 hours.
Thunderstorm and lightning will also occur at several districts of the State during this period till August 18, IMD said.
Rainfall activity will increase over peninsular India from August 16 onwards, the IMD said.
The regional meteorological centre today said that the South West Monsoon has been subdued over Odisha
