The Regional Centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar on Monday issued thunderstorm with lightning alert for several districts of Odisha.

As per the latest warning, moderate thunderstorm with lightning and rainfall is likely to occur in Angul, Balasore, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Puri, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Deoggarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur in the next three hours.

“People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike,” IMD said in a release.

Weather forecast and warning for districts of Odisha for next few days:

Day 1 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 25.08.2021 upto 0830 hrs IST of 26.08.2021)

Yellow Warning(To be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Sundargarh.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 26.08.2021 upto 0830 hrs IST of 27.08.2021)

Yellow Warning(To be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Cuttack.

Day 3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 27.08.2021 upto 0830 hrs IST of 28.08.2021)

Yellow Warning(To be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput .

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Nayagarh and Khordha.
