As many as five districts in Odisha will witness heavy to very heavy rain in the next 24 hours, informed the Indian Meterological Department’s (IMD) Regional Center in Bhubaneswar.

The Met department has issued yellow warning for Malkangiri, Koraput, Keonjhar, Nabarngpur and Mayurbhanj districts.

“A low monsoon trap line has been active over west Bay of Bengal from Jharkhand to south coast of Odisha up to 1.5 kilometer from the sea level. Under its effect a low pressure is likely to be formed over North-East Bay of Bengal along the West-Central Coast of Odisha in the next 48 hours,” said Meteorologist Umashankar Uma Shankar Das.

“Under the effect of the low pressure, heavy to very heavy rains will likely to lash five districts-Malkangiri, Koraput, Keonjhar, Nabarngpur and Mayurbhanj in the State. Yellow warning has been issued for these districts,” said Dash.
Besides, coastal districts and interior districts of Odisha-Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Anugul, Nuapada, Bolangir and Kalahandi will also experience heavy rainfall today and tomorrow.

According to the Meteorological department, the effect of the low pressure is likely to be severe on August 16 and 17.Moreover, interior pockets of Odisha will witness heavy rain on August 18.
