Around 100 personnel from the Odisha Police received DGP’s Commendation Disc on the occasion of Independence Day.

Director General of Police, Abhay gave away the awards at an event at the Police Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. Seven Police COVID martyrs, who laid down their lives in the line of duty, 66Police personnel of different units/ranks were awarded with the DGP’s Disc.

“Today, 66 police personnel were awarded with commendation discs and letters for their meritorious service. Families of 7 Covid martyrs attended the event. I assure that all support will be extended to the families of corona warriors in the state,” said Abhay.

The DGP further informed that no untoward incident was reported during the observance of the Independence Day celebrations in the State.

“I am grateful to the DGP for recognising my work and contribution. The award will certainly help me to work better for serving the people,” said Narasingha Bhol, IG (Central Range).

The senior Odisha Police official also showered praises on the two Odia jawans--Debashish Sethy and Sudhir Kumar Tudu--who sacrificed their lives during an anti-Maoist operation in Odisha’s Kalahandi district, and have been decorated with the prestigious Shaurya Chakra.

The commandoes of the special operation group (SOG)- a specialised anti-Maoist force in Odisha- were conferred the award posthumously on the eve of Independence Day. “It is a matter of pride for us that two Odia jawans, who displayed exemplary courage and sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, have been conferred with the Shaurya Chakra by the Government of India,” said Abhay.
