As per IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded minimum temperature of 20 and 19.4 degree C, respectively.
Heavy rainfall may dampen the spirit of Durga Puja celebrations in Odisha this year. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted a wet start to the celebrations beginning October 1.
IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre today predicted that the intensity of rain will increase in the State from October 1.
In a press release, the IMD said a fresh spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over east-central India from the night of 18th August. The weather bureau has also predicted that under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over south Myanmar and neighbourhood, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around 19th August.
IMD scientist Umashankar Das on Monday said that though the intensity of rainfall will come down in the next 48 hours, there is possibility of heavy rainfall activities for a period of two days starting from August 17, 2022.
As per sources, the second system may intensify into a depression triggering heavy rainfall. The enhanced rainfall activity may dampen the Independence Day celebrations in the State on August 15.
The maximum temperature will be more than 40 degree Celsius at many places and likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 degrees at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha during the next 4 to 5 days.

As per the alert, districts, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur are likely to witness moderate rain and thundershower activities on Monday.
According to the IMD forecast, there is a likelihood of light to moderate rain and thunderstorm activity today in the southern Odisha districts like Ganjam and Gajapati.
The minimum (night) temperature in Odisha is very likely to fall gradually by 3-4 degree Celsius at many places over the districts during the next 4-5 days.
