Heavy rainfall may dampen the Durga Puja festivities in Odisha with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicting a wet start to the celebrations beginning October 1.

The IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre today predicted that the intensity of rain will increase in the State from October 1. Thunderstorm and lightning activities will also continue in the State for the next three days. 

Moreover, heavy rain warning has been issued for several districts on September 28 and 29.  

“As per our predication for the next five days, thunderstorm and lightning will continue in the State. Some places will see rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning,” IMD Bhubaneswar director HR Biswas said.

Here are the predications for next three days:

Day 1 Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Keonjhar Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal ,Kandhamal ,Rayagada ,Koraput, Malkangiri and Angul. 

Day 2 Yellow Warning : Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Malkangiri ,Koraput, Rayagada ,Kandhamal ,Dhenkanal, Keonjhar ,Mayurbhanj and Boudh. 

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri  and Koraput .
Day 3 Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Malkangiri ,Koraput, Rayagada ,Nawarangpur, Kalahandi ,Kandhamal  and Mayurbhanj. 

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati ,Rayagada and Koraput.
