Currently, the Deep Depression (remnant of cyclone Jawad) is moving at a speed of 20 kmph during the past 6 hours. It now lay centered some 90 kms from Gopalpur and 120 kms from Puri.
A low pressure area has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal under the influence of a cyclonic circulation. The system is likely to concentrate into a depression over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during the next 36 hours.
As per IMD, the trough in easterlies now runs from the cyclonic circulation associated with the low pressure system over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast to northwest Bay of Bengal.
As per the Met department, the southwest monsoon has completely withdrawn from the entire country and simultaneously, the northeast monsoon rains have commenced over extreme south peninsular India today.
Meanwhile, around 4,000 people are now lodged at various camps that have been opened in Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts of the state.
South West monsoon is active over Odisha, informed the Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday (September 30). In the next couple of days, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at many places over several districts including coastal and interior areas of Odisha.
