More rains to pound Odisha in next 24 hours

Bhubaneswar: More rains are likely to lash the State during next 24 hours following formation of a well marked low pressure over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and north coast Odisha.

“The associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height persists,” stated a notification issued by Bhubaneswar Meteorolgical department.

Under its impact, heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Jajpur districts, informed the met office.

The MeT has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea during these hours.

Thunderstorm and lightning alert accompanied with moderate rainfall at one or two places over Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Bhadrak& Balasore districts were predicted till 1:30 PM on Monday.

As per reports, the incessant rains have led to swelling of the Bansadhara river that is now flowing above danger mark at Kashinagar in Gajapati district triggering panic among the locals.

The water level in the river had touched 54.84 metre against the danger mark 54.60 metre when reports last came in.
