A low pressure has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.

Under the influence of the system, light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at several parts of Odisha in the next 48 hours.

Though the rainfall activity will assist in agriculture, mostly Kharif crops, several parts of the State will experience temporary water logging conditions due to the heavy downpour, said IMD.

“Under the influence of low pressure, squally weather with strong surface winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph is likely to prevail over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay of Bengal till July 25 and over along Odisha coast during July 23 and 25,” said IMD.

The Regional Met Centre has also issued an advisory regarding heavy rain in the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in the next 24 hours.

As per IMD, a few spell of rain/ thunderstorm with one or two spell of rain (2-3 cm rain/hr) is likely in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Yellow Warning : Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is likely to occur in some areas of the Twin City. (Alert valid till 0830 hours of July 23).

Day 1 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 22.07.2021 upto 0830 hrs IST of 23.07.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur and Sambalpur.

Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Deogarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Malkangiri and Koraput.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.07.2021 upto 0830 hrs IST of 24.07.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Bolangir andDeogarh. Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.

Day 3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 24.07.2021 upto 0830 hrs IST of 25.07.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Bargarh and Jharsuguda.

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
