Khordha district has carved out of the former Puri District on 1st April, 1993. Despite repeated onslaughts from Maratha and Muslim cavalry, it managed to maintain the glory of its independence of royal fort till 1803. Therefore, the Royal Fort is spelt with reverence as “Khordhagada” and is referred as the “last independent fort” which remained free from the clutches of East India Company for a long period (from 1757, the Battle of Plassey after which the East India Company established company rule in Bengal till 1803).This resistance movement of Odias was recorded by the British historians as “Paik Rebellion”, which was in fact, the first Independence war of India. It originated in Khordha soil and spread to other parts of Odisha in 1817 much prior to the outbreak of the historical Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.Khordha is famous for Kora khai which is traditional Odia food offered to Lord Lingraj (Shiva) as Prasad.

The Orissa High Court on Tuesday shot notices to Odisha government and Chilika Development Authority in connection with public interest litigation (PIL) seeking steps to free noise pollution from the wetland areas of Chilika, Asia's second-largest brackish water lagoon.
The active cases in the State stand at 21,525 as a total of 12,37,976 people have so far recovered from the disease, including 3,624 on Sunday, said I&PR Department data.
With this, the cumulative Covid-19 positive tally in the State has surged to 12,59,405 while a total of 12,15,380 people have recovered from the infection so far.
On Tuesday, as many as 3,086 cases, including 454 from 0 to 18 years age group, were detected pushing the positive tally to 12,52,326, said a count released by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.
With this, the cumulative Covid-19 positive tally in the State has surged to 12,45,911 while a total of 11,84,174 people have recovered from the infection so far.
A total of 2,74,43,759 samples have been tested, 61,635 in the last 24 hours, in the State so far. The daily test positivity rate stood at 8.2 percent.

n terms of fatalities, three deaths were reported from Sundargarh district while one each from Balasore, Khordha (Bhubaneswar), Keonjhar, Koraput and Rayagada districts, informed the Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.
This is the fourth consecutive day that the State recorded a dip in positive cases from the highs of over 11K plus cases in the ongoing third wave of the pandemic.
The last time the State recorded below 10,000 cases was on January 12 when 8778 people had tested positive for the virus.
The active cases in the State stood at 88,346 and a total of 10,80,562 people recuperated from the disease, including 6,785 on Wednesday, till date, as per the State Health and Family Welfare Department.
The entire incident was captured in a CCTV camera installed at the fuel station. The footage was provided to the channel by the authorities of the filling station.
Khurda district, which includes the state capital Bhubaneswar reported the highest number of new cases at 4,347, followed by Sundargarh at 1,219, Cuttack at 898 and Sambalpur at 390.
