The daily infection tally of SARS-CoV-2 continued its downward trend in Odisha with 7291 fresh cases being reported from across the State on Monday. 

This is the fourth consecutive day that the State recorded a dip in positive cases from the highs of over 11K plus cases in the ongoing third wave of the pandemic. 

The State’s daily infection numbers surpassed 10K mark for the first time in the third wave on January 13 when 10,059 people tested positive for the virus. The highest single-day spike of cases was recorded on January 19.

Among the 7291 new cases detected in the past 24 hours, 954 are from the 0-18 years age group. While 4226 infections have been traced from quarantine, 3065 are local transmission cases. The State had reported 8520 cases on Sunday.

Khordha also reported a drop in its virus tally with 1705 new cases in the last 24 hours. The district however still tops the chart in terms of infections followed by Sundargarh (646), Cuttack (561), Balasore (343), Rayagada (295) and Sonepur (282). 

The State has so far recorded 1211951 confirmed cases of Coronavirus while the active caseload stand at 81765. 

Meanwhile, the Covid death toll in the State mounted to 8525 with five more fatalities in the last 24 hours, said the State Health Department.

1.A 57 years old Female of Balasore District.

2.A 45 years old Female of Bhubaneswar.

3.A 13 years old Girl of Cuttack District. 
4.A 78 years old Female of Keonjhar District who was also suffering from Asthma, Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.

5.A 35 years old Female of Sundargarh District.
