The SRC office has asked the Collectors of eight districts- Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh and Nuapada to remain alert in view of the heatwave alert for the next five days.

In Rourkela, two more deaths at the Government Hospital raise the suspected heatstroke death toll to 16 in Sundargarh District. Authorities are transferring critical patients to Hi-Tech Hospital in Bhubaneswar as preventive steps continue.

Superintendent of the RGH, Sudharani Pradhan informed that eight of the persons were received dead while two others died after reaching the hospital. “It has not been established that they have died of heatstroke. That has happened for unknown reasons. We are unable to give their history,” she said.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma targeted the state government while raising several issues including the disappearance of the Ratna Bhandar key and labour migration issues. 

It is suspected the youth was killed somewhere and before the body was thrown into water, a stone was tied around its neck to prevent it from floating. 

While doctors claimed brain haemorrhage caused by high blood pressure to be the possible reason of the UTP's death, family members alleged torture inside jail to be the reason behind his death.  

CRPF and COBRA jawans have been carrying out anti-Maoist operations in the fringe areas of Sundargarh and Jharkhand to ward off possible violence and threats from ultras. 

The border roads in Malkangiri linking Chhattisgarh have been sealed while the police of both states are sharing intelligence on the movement of Maoists. Border areas in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Malkangiri and Koraput have been sealed, sources said.   

An unfortunate incident was reported from Muniguda in Rayagada. Law Minister and BJD candidate for Bissamcuttack, Jagannath Saraka was campaigning at Raghubari village on Sunday when a youth BJD leader accompanying him allegedly attacked one person and abused the villagers, who raised the issue of drinking water crisis in the area.

While Dilip Tirkey is contesting from Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat on a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket, Prabodh Tirkey, former captain of the Indian men’s Hockey team, is from Talasara Assembly constituency on a Congress ticket.

The escaped UTP identified as Arjun Munda of Bhasma police limits was arrested in connection with a murder case and lodged in Sundargarh jail. He was admitted to the district headquarters hospital on March 29 for treatment. 

In 2014, BJP leader Jual Oram and BJD leader Dilip Tirkey had locked horns in Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat and they are in the fray after 10 years

To counter the two BJP stalwarts Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram, the BJD is reportedly planning to field its organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das in Sambalpur and hockey legend Dillip Tirkey in Sundargarh.

Three persons hailing from Sargipalli Lokadega area were going on a bike to Darlidhipa. It was stated that the three were going to their relative’s house.
