In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a man allegedly beat his wife to death following a family dispute in Khuntipani village under Hemgir police station in Sundargarh district.
According to sources, the accused has been identified as Makul Dhanuar, while the deceased woman is his wife, Pushpa Dhanuar. The incident reportedly occurred after a quarrel between the couple over family-related issues.
Makul Dhanuar, along with his wife and other family members, had gone to the Hemgir weekly market on Wednesday. While returning home, an argument broke out between the husband and wife, which soon escalated into a heated altercation. In a fit of rage, Makul allegedly assaulted Pushpa brutally with a wooden stick.

As a result of the assault, Pushpa lost consciousness. The accused then carried her home and laid her on a bed. In an apparent attempt to avoid suspicion, he reportedly applied hot compresses throughout the night, pretending to treat her injuries.
However, on Thursday morning, Makul allegedly began crying loudly, which raised suspicion among local residents. Neighbours subsequently informed the police. Soon after, Pushpa’s father, Lingaraj Dhanuar, came to know about the incident and lodged a formal complaint at Hemgir police station.
Following the complaint, police personnel along with a scientific team reached the spot, conducted a preliminary investigation, and sent the body for post-mortem. The police have detained the accused husband and are interrogating him in connection with the case.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
