Khordha district has carved out of the former Puri District on 1st April, 1993. Despite repeated onslaughts from Maratha and Muslim cavalry, it managed to maintain the glory of its independence of royal fort till 1803. Therefore, the Royal Fort is spelt with reverence as “Khordhagada” and is referred as the “last independent fort” which remained free from the clutches of East India Company for a long period (from 1757, the Battle of Plassey after which the East India Company established company rule in Bengal till 1803).This resistance movement of Odias was recorded by the British historians as “Paik Rebellion”, which was in fact, the first Independence war of India. It originated in Khordha soil and spread to other parts of Odisha in 1817 much prior to the outbreak of the historical Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.Khordha is famous for Kora khai which is traditional Odia food offered to Lord Lingraj (Shiva) as Prasad.
Khordha district has reported as many as 113 dengue cases since January. Out of the total cases, a whopping 103 were detected only this month.

Unidentified miscreants have looted valuables worth lakhs of rupees from a jewellery shop in Khordha town. The incident reportedly happened late last night near the busy Patitapabana Chhak in Gurujang area of the town.
Odisha reported 46 fatalities due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours taking the virus toll to 4,109 even as 3,222 people tested positive for the virus during the period pushing the cumulative positive tally to 91,6109 in the State.
With this, the active cases in the State increased to 31,231 while 8,77,540 patients recovered, including 3,233 on Wednesday, from the disease so far.

Though the Covid-19 graphs in majority of districts in the State have waned, the situation is still far from satisfactory in some districts, especially in the coastal belts of Odisha.
The daily infection numbers of Covid continues to oscillate in the State with as many as 3,371 persons testing positive for the Coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
Nine deaths were reported from Khordha district, including five in Bhubaneswar while five each from Bargarh, Nayagarh and Puri.
With this, the active cases in the State remained at 33,019 while 8,60,142 patients have recovered, including 3,644 on Friday, from the disease so far.
The Covid-19 daily positive count in Odisha dropped below 3,000-mark for the second time in the last four days. However, deaths due to the virus continued unabated in the State.
On Tuesday, the State had recorded 3,671 positive cases and 38 deaths.
There is no relief from the single-day Covid-19 fatalities in Odisha even as the daily positive cases on Tuesday dipped to below 3000-mark, a record low in over last two months.
