PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Jasprit Bumrah

Team India are expected to rest pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for their final Asia Cup 2025 group-stage clash against Oman on 19 September, according to a PTI report. Having already secured qualification to the Super Four stage with commanding wins over UAE and Pakistan, the fixture has become a formality for Suryakumar Yadav’s side.

India’s campaign began with a nine-wicket victory over UAE on 9 September, followed by a seven-wicket win against Pakistan five days later, ensuring the Men in Blue finished top of their group.

Managing Workload Ahead of Knockouts

With the possibility of playing four matches in seven days should they reach the final, India’s management is keen to preserve Bumrah’s fitness. The 30-year-old has been in stellar form, taking two for 28 against Pakistan, a performance that saw him overtake Bhuvneshwar Kumar as India’s fourth-highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals.

In his 72-match T20I career so far, Bumrah has claimed 92 wickets at an average of 17.67 and an impressive economy rate of 6.29.

Opportunity for Others

In Bumrah’s absence, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are leading contenders to feature in the playing XI. The Oman match could be particularly significant for Arshdeep, who is just one wicket away from 100 T20I scalps. Reaching this milestone would make him the eighth Indian bowler to achieve the feat, adding personal significance to what is otherwise a dead rubber for the team.

By resting Bumrah, India underline the importance of workload management, while also offering a chance for fringe players to make their mark before the high-stakes Super Four battles.
