Sofia Firdous was present in the meeting amid speculations that she may be picked as the Congress candidate for the seat, as Moquim may not contest the election due to the ORHDC loan scam case. He could not get a stay on the Orissa High Court order pertaining to the case.

The Supreme Court granted bail to Mohammad Moquim, a senior Congress leader involved in the ORHDC loan fraud case. This development is crucial as he contemplates contesting the upcoming 2024 elections from Barabati-Cuttack, a seat he previously won.

Though the victim managed to save his life from the deadly attack, he was critically injured in the process.

Locals alleged that such incidents are frequently happening due to the lackadaisical attitude of the administration.
