Excise Dept busts major brown sugar haul worth Rs 32 lakh in Odisha, 2 arrested

In a joint operation by the Excise Department and the Satellite Unit team at Jaleswar in Balasore district, brown sugar worth several lakhs of rupees was seized from two different locations. 

Along with the seizure of 325 grams of white poison, two accused individuals have been arrested. The total estimated value of the seized brown sugar is approximately Rs 32 lakh.  Both youths have been arrested and sent for court proceedings by the excise police. 

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sudip Kumar Bhuyana from Tambakhori village under Rasgovindpur Police Station in Mayurbhanj district, and SK Shajan from Patharpura village under Jaleswar Police Station.

During the operation near Ambaliatha bypass under Jaleswar Police Station, the Excise Department arrested one youth and recovered 110 grams of brown sugar from his possession. Similarly, another youth was apprehended along National Highway No. 60, and 215 grams of brown sugar were seized from his possession.

Earlier in March this year, in a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police had seized brown sugar worth Rs 72 lakh in raids at two locations in Bhubaneswar.
