The Covid-19 daily infection count in Odisha plunged below the 5000-mark for the second consecutive day on Sunday. The State reported 4,843 cases, including 663 from 0 to 18 years age group, in the last 24 hours.

On the other hand, the State reported 19 fatalities due to Covid-19 pushing the death toll to 8,595, as per Health Department.

The State had on Saturday detected 4,842 positive cases and 15 death, as per the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Of the new cases detected on Sunday, 2,815 were detected in quarantine while 2,028 are local contact cases. Khordha district reported the highest 1,023 infections, followed by 735 in Sundargarh and 379 in Cuttack.

Nayagarh (194), Nuapada (166), Jajpur (166), Kalahandi (158), Mayurbhanj (152), Balasore (152), Nabarangpur (137), Sambalpur (128), Jagatsingpur (100), Rayagada (99), Bolangir (95), Bargarh (80), Keonjhar (81), Deogarh (73), Sonepur (73), Puri (72), Kendrapara (70), Ganjam (67), Gajapati (62), Jharsuguda (61), Bhadrak (60), Angul (58), Kandhamal (52), Koraput (50), Boudh (49), Dhenkanal (45), Malkangiri (18) and State Pool (188).

In terms of deaths, five fatalities were reported from Khordha district, three from Ganjam, two each from Angul and Nabarangpur district and one each from Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Puri districts, added the health department.

With this, the cumulative Covid-19 positive tally in the State has surged to 12,45,911 while a total of 11,84,174 people have recovered from the infection so far. The active cases stood at 53,090, said the I&PR Department.

Odisha so far has tested  2,75,70,488 samples, including 62,858  in the last 24 hours, for Covid-19 while the test positivity rate stood 7.7 per cent in the State.
