State Health and Family Welfare department Director Bijay Mohapatra today said that post Rath Yatra, Odisha may witness a surge in the number of Covid cases.
Khordha reported the highest number of 60 new cases followed by Cuttack (32), Sundargarh (13), Subarnapur (8), and Puri (5).
Odisha now has 366 active COVID-19 cases, while 12,78,121 people have recovered from the disease, including 40 in the last 24 hours. Besides, 53 other coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far.
The toll mounted to 9,101 with three fatalities in Kandhamal district. These are confirmed as Covid deaths after an audit. Fifty-three other coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far, according to data.
The daily infections are lowest since December 27, when the state had logged 123 cases. It had registered 168 cases and eight deaths on Tuesday.
There are 3,079 active COVID-19 cases as 585 patients recuperated from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 12,72,428, it said.
There are 7,099 active COVID-19 cases, including 1,303 in Khordha, which is in the yellow zone. As many as 50,536 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, a bulletin stated.
Meanwhile, at least 20 more people have succumbed to COVID in the State taking the overall death toll to 8,904.
The active cases in the State stand at 21,525 as a total of 12,37,976 people have so far recovered from the disease, including 3,624 on Sunday, said I&PR Department data.
Khordha district, comprising the Capital City Bhubaneswar, reported the maximum cases of 513, followed by 291 in Sundargarh and 138 in Cuttack, respectively.
The active cases declined to 37,762, including 10,467 in Khurda, which is in the red zone along with Sundargarh and Cuttack, where current infections are over 2,500 each.
The fresh fatalities pushed the virus death toll in the State to 8612.
Despite ebb in its daily virus tally from few days ago, Khordha accounted for the highest number of infections among all districts with 1500 persons testing positive in the last one day while Sundargarh reported 501 cases and Cuttack 482 cases.
This is the fourth consecutive day that the State recorded a dip in positive cases from the highs of over 11K plus cases in the ongoing third wave of the pandemic.
The last time the State recorded below 10,000 cases was on January 12 when 8778 people had tested positive for the virus.
Out of the 7,071 cases, 4,128 were detected in quarantine while 2,943 are local contact cases
The district accounts for the second highest number of fresh coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours after Khordha.
The State saw a double rise in number as on Tuesday the State had logged 680 COVID-19 cases. While on Monday it had registered 424 COVID-19 cases.
