Odisha on Friday witnessed a record low of Covid cases for the first time in a month during the current third wave of the pandemic. With 2,697 new cases in the last 24 hours, Odisha's daily virus figures on Friday pushed the cumulative positive tally to 12,62,102, said the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Of the new cases reported today, 435 positives are from the 0-18 year age group. Among the 2,697 positives, 1,568 cases have been reported from quarantine while 1,568 are local transmission cases, added the report.

Khordha district, comprising the Capital City Bhubaneswar, reported the maximum cases of 513, followed by 291 in Sundargarh and 138 in Cuttack, respectively.

In terms of deaths, the State's fatality figures touched the highest for this wave of the pandemic with 23 more people losing their lives following infection with the virus. The total death toll surged to 8689. 

Khordha reported 7 fatalities, the maximum among all districts in the State followed by 3 from Sundargarh, two each from Bhadrak, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara districts while one each from Balasore, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts, added the health department.

Mayurbhanj (128), Jajpur (127),  Nayagarh (96), Kalahandi  (95), Rayagada (85), Sambalpur (85), Nabrangpur (75), Jagatsinghpur (67), Puri (63), Gajapati (59), Nuapada (55), Keonjhar (44), Koraput (41), Kendrapada (40), Dhenkanal (40), Deogarh (39), Jharsuguda (36), Kandhamal (34), Sonepur (29), Malkangiri (18), Ganjam (16) and State Pool (108).

The active cases in the State stand at 30,493 as a total of 12,22,867 people have so far recovered from the disease, including 7,487 on Wednesday, as per the data of I&PR Department.

A total of 2,78,72,986 samples have been tested, 60,762 in the last 24 hours, in the State so far. The daily test positivity rate stands at 4.4 per cent.
