Public Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan has set an November-end deadline for the completion of the Sundarpada-Jatni road project, a key connectivity initiative in the state capital region.

The announcement came on Friday during his on-site review of the 13.5-kilometre stretch, where he held discussions with senior departmental officials, the chief engineer, contractors, and local stakeholders to accelerate progress, as reported by The Times of India.

Road Widening And Support Works

The reports added that the project involves converting the existing road into a four-lane corridor to improve traffic flow and ease pressure on surrounding routes.

Parallel issues such as drainage, sewage, and electricity adjustments were also addressed to avoid delays once road-widening work picks up pace. A government statement said the new link will provide significant relief for commuters and residents, strengthening infrastructure and boosting local development once operational.

Wider Push For Road Infrastructure

The deadline for the Sundarpada–Jatni project comes as the state government clears several large-scale highway initiatives. On Friday, the cabinet also approved the Pipili–Konark greenfield corridor, a 40-kilometre four-lane road that will cut travel time between the two towns from nearly 90 minutes to just 30.

The corridor, designed for speeds up to 100 kmph, will be 200 feet wide and supported by complementary widening of the existing Pipili-Konark route. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and Harichandan chaired the high-level review meeting that finalised the project.

Connectivity Boost For Puri District

Alongside the Konark corridor, the government has cleared proposals for widening key stretches in Puri town, including the Taj International–Jagannath Stadium road and access routes around the Jagannath Temple.

In the Nimapara constituency, four-lane expansions have been planned between Charichhak and Astarang as well as between Jalarpur and Charichhak.
