The number of new Covid-19 cases slipped down below the 1000-mark for the first time in the third wave of the pandemic in Odisha. The state recorded 859 new cases on Monday pushing the cumulative positive tally to 12,78,121.

Out of 859 new positives, 503 cases have been reported from quarantine while 356 are local transmission cases. As many as 172 new cases have been detected from the 0-18 year age group population, a data released by the State I&PR Department said.

Apart from Khordha, the infection figures have come down to two figures in other districts. Khordha has reported maximum 105 cases, followed by 71 in Koraput.

Cuttack (65), Sundargarh (62), Angul (45), Jajpur (45), Gajapati (39), Sambalpur (35), Mayurbhanj (34), Rayagada (29), Kendrapada (25), Jharsuguda (24), Balasore (21), Bargarh (21), Boudh (20), Nayagarh (19), Ganjam (18), Sonepur (18), Puri (16),  Keonjhar (16), Jagatsinghpur (15), Nuapada (13), Bhadrak (12), Malkangiri (12),  Nabarangpur (11), Kalahandi (10), Balangir (9), Deogarh (9), Dhenkanal (9), Kandhamal (8) and State Pool (23).

Meanwhile, at least 20 more people have succumbed to COVID in the State taking the overall death toll to 8,904. With 6 fatalities, Balasore has recorded maximum new deaths followed by Jajpur with 4 deaths. 

The active cases remained at 11,324 while as many as 12,57,840 patients have recovered from the disease so far with 1845 new recoveries on Sunday, as per the data of I&PR Department.

A total of 2,84,78,066 samples have been tested, 59092 in the last 24 hours, in the State so far. The daily test positivity rate stood at 1.45 per cent.
