Unidentified miscreants broke into a home in Bolangir, ransacked the property, and stole valuables when the residing family was out for Nuakhai festivities.

According to reports, the burglary occurred at the residence of Murali Dhar Thakur near College Chhak in Belpada town, where thieves broke into the locked house late Saturday night.

Family Returns To Ransacked Home

Sources reported that the family had left for their native village in Bhatapada on Friday to participate in Nuakhai festivities. They stayed overnight due to a recent bereavement in the extended family.

Upon returning on Saturday, they found the house in disarray. Cupboards were broken open, household items were scattered across the floor, and important documents lay in disorder.

Preliminary estimates indicate that nearly 110 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 50,000 in cash were stolen. The family immediately lodged a complaint with the Belpada police, prompting the launch of an investigation.

Reports also added that investigators are examining the method of entry and attempting to trace possible suspects. Police officials confirmed that the inquiry is ongoing and that all leads are being pursued to recover the stolen items.

Repeated Incidents In Urban Odisha

The Bolangir incident follows a series of thefts in urban Odisha. In Bhubaneswar, miscreants recently looted valuables from six flats in the Chandaka police station area ahead of Durga Puja and Diwali festivities.

CCTV footage captured the thieves moving from one apartment to another, executing the break-ins with precision. Stolen items reportedly included gold jewellery, cash amounting to several lakhs of rupees, and other expensive household articles.
