Armed robbers threatened a shopkeeper and looted more than one lakh rupees at gunpoint from the Gandhi Variety Store in Pandarshila village under Raruan police station in Mayurbhanj on Friday night.

Armed robbers threatened a shopkeeper and looted more than one lakh rupees at gunpoint from the Gandhi Variety Store in Pandarshila village under Raruan police station in Mayurbhanj on Friday night. 

The incident occurred while the store was being closed. Three miscreants arrived at the scene, brandishing a gun and a dagger to intimidate the owner, and forcibly took the cash. The terrified shopkeeper complied, handing over the money to the criminals.

Fear Spreads Across Local Area

The audacious robbery has created fear among residents of the local area. Reports suggest that such crimes are being committed regularly by similar miscreants. Despite swift action by Raruan police, who began examining CCTV footage from various nearby locations, no arrests had been made at the time of reporting.

Cross-Border Crime Suspected

With Raruan situated close to the Jharkhand border, authorities suspect that the miscreants may be crossing into Odisha from Jharkhand to carry out these offences. This incident follows a series of similar cases in the surrounding areas, including an attempt to break open the donation box at the Kichakeswari temple.

Locals Demand Enhanced Policing

Residents of Pandarshila have called for increased patrolling in the area, emphasising that strengthened security measures could prevent such harrowing incidents in the future. Police continue to investigate the case, tracking CCTV footage and gathering leads to apprehend those responsible for the robbery.
