Alert lifeguards foil beggars’ bid to loot tourists on Puri beach
In a dramatic turn of events on Friday, two individuals posing as beggars were caught red-handed after looting money from tourists at Puri beach. Thanks to the quick action of lifeguards stationed nearby, the stolen cash was recovered and returned to the victims.
According to reports, three tourists had visited the beach for leisure when they came across a woman beggar. The tourists allegedly asked her where they could buy liquor. She demanded money, promising to procure it for them.
Handing over Rs 500, the tourists received alcohol from her, which they consumed before reportedly falling unconscious on the sands.
Seizing the opportunity, the woman, along with an accomplice, a man, allegedly stole Rs 5,500 from the tourists’ belongings. However, some vigilant lifeguards deployed on the beach noticed the suspicious activity and intervened immediately. They managed to apprehend both the accused on the spot and recovered the stolen cash. The money was subsequently returned to the tourists.
The swift action of the lifeguards has drawn widespread praise. Locals and visitors alike lauded them not only for their primary duty of saving lives at sea but also for protecting tourists from miscreants on land.

Meanwhile, questions have been raised how the tourists are consuming liquor on the beach and why the police is not taking any action against them.
