Suspected ‘bird flu’ scare grips Dhenkanal after several crows found dead
Panic gripped Kamakhyanagar town in Dhenkanal after several crows were found dead at different locations, with locals suspecting possible bird flu outbreak.
According to reports, over ten crow carcasses were spotted within the premises of the Panchayat Samiti office, while several others were found lying inside the court complex. The unusual sight of so many dead birds has sparked concern among residents.
On receiving information, a team from the Forest and Animal Husbandry Department reached the sites and collected the carcasses. The dead birds have been sent to a laboratory for further examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Officials said the exact reason behind the sudden deaths is yet to be determined. We are awaiting lab test results, which will confirm whether it is due to poisoning, infection, or other factors, one officer said.
“I have collected the samples and sent it to lab for testing. The exact reason behind the death can be ascertained only after we get the reports,” said Udaynath Mahalik, veterinary doctor, Kamakhyanagar.
Meanwhile, locals have urged the administration to take precautionary measures, as the unexplained crow deaths continue to cause unease across Kamakhyanagar.

“I found several crows dead at block office and other parts. I have never seen such a huge number of crow deaths. I think this might be a bird flu outbreak. Urge administration to take necessary steps,” said Hara Patnaik, a local.
