This is the fourth consecutive day that the State recorded a dip in positive cases from the highs of over 11K plus cases in the ongoing third wave of the pandemic. 

The last time the State recorded below 10,000 cases was on January 12 when 8778 people had tested positive for the virus.

The Orissa High Court has directed the State government to submit a detailed report on the number of deaths caused by Covid-19 in the State.

Odisha on Sunday witnessed a slight downtrend in the daily infections with the detection of 7002 Covid positive cases in the last 24 hours. However, the death rate continues to remain high as the disease claimed 42 lives during the period, the highest single day fatality recorded since the onset of the pandemic.

While daily infections in Odisha continued to hover over 8k, the virus has claimed as many as 37 lives in the last 24 hours - the most in a day since the onset of the pandemic. The state's TPR stood at 14%.

As many as 33 people in the state succumbed to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. Taking to twitter, the Odisha Health Department shared the details of the deceased. Earlier during the day, Odisha recorded a total of 7216 fresh positive cases in the past 24 hours.

Odisha touched a new height in daily cases of fatalities due to Covid-19 since the onset of pandemic with 35 more patients succumbing to the deadly virus in last 24 hours even as the single-day spike once again crossed 11,000 mark during the period.

Odisha recorded the deadliest day of the pandemic on Tuesday as 33 COVID patients succumbed to the virus in a day, taking the death count in the state to 2549. The state's total caseload rose to 7, 14,380 with the detection of 10,939 more infections.

Odisha on Thursday reported its highest single day death toll due to Covid infection with as many as 25 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours. Maintaining a steady rate of infection positivity, the State also witnessed over 11K new Coronavirus cases in the past one day.

The Covid-19 positive tally in the State surged to 5,88,687 while the death toll stood at 2,273 on Friday.
