In yet another case of self-immolation, a 30-year-old woman from Manapur village in Angul district attempted to burn herself alive at her home on late Friday evening. The victim is now receiving critical treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after sustaining around 70 percent of severe burn injuries.

Authorities from Kantabania police station in Angul stated that the woman reportedly had an argument with her husband earlier in the day. Following the altercation, she poured petrol over herself and set herself on fire inside her residence.

Local residents intervened promptly and rushed her to Angul District Headquarters Hospital for immediate care.

Critical Condition Prompts Transfer to Cuttack

Reports added that given the extent of her injuries, the woman was later transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for specialised treatment.

As of Saturday morning, her condition remained critical, with extensive burns requiring intensive care to stabilise her.

Police Investigation in Progress

Meanwhile, Kantabania police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough inquiry into the circumstances leading to the self-immolation attempt.

Officials have recorded statements from family members and are examining the sequence of events. As of the last reports, no arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing.

Second Case In Three Days

The Angul self-immolation comes just two days after a woman from Kankreilo village in Salepur of Cuttack district succumbed to severe burn injuries at SCB after attempting self-immolation at her home.

Police reported that she suffered burns over 60 percent of her body, and preliminary findings indicated the act followed a family dispute. Her statement was recorded during treatment, which provided key information for the ongoing investigation.

No arrests were made in that case either, and police are continuing inquiries to establish the precise circumstances.
