The deceased, a resident of Kankreilo village in Odisha, had suffered critical injuries on Tuesday after being engulfed in flames at her home. Doctors confirmed that 60 per cent of her body had been burnt.
According to police, the woman allegedly set herself ablaze following a family dispute. Before her death, her statement was recorded during treatment, which has provided important details for the ongoing investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the incident was a case of self-immolation.
Salepur SDPO Biranchi Narayan Pati said, “The patient passed away on Wednesday night. We are investigating the case based on the report filed by her paternal family. Her statement was also recorded, and our inquiry so far indicates that she took the drastic step owing to family disputes.”
