  • The new fatalities have pushed the overall death toll in the State to 2403

Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Thursday reported its highest single-day death toll due to Covid infection with as many as 25 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours. Maintaining a steady rate of infection positivity, the State also witnessed over 11 K new Coronavirus cases in the past one day.

The new fatalities have pushed the overall death toll in the State to 2403. As per the data released by the State Health Department, four Covid deaths have been reported each from the districts of Khordha and Kalahandi. While Angul witnessed 3 deaths, Rayagada, Sundargarh and Ganjam have registered 2 deaths each. 

Among all the districts that have reported a total of  11,498 new Covid19 cases, Khordha has reported the highest of 1497 positives. Cuttack which has been showing an increasing trend of surge in the virus cases, is the second worst-hit district in terms of the fresh infections in the last 24 hours. The district has witnessed 1107 new cases followed by Angul with 867 positives. A total of 12 districts have reported 300 plus cases.

The fresh cases have pushed the cumulative infection figures to 655899. Similarly, 10036 new recoveries have taken the total recovered cases to 546631. The active caseload in the State meanwhile stands at 106812.
