A police assistant sub-inspector was allegedly beaten by locals at Chudakuti Bazaar in Dhamnagar, Bhadrak, for reportedly arresting an 'innocent' person on Wednesday. The incident occurred when the ASI and a cop mistakenly picked up Bijay Gahana instead of the accused. Both officers were attacked by the mob until Dhamnagar SDPO intervened and rescued them. They were taken to Dhamnagar hospital for treatment. A betel shop owner has been detained in connection with the case.

President of the All India Congress Committee Mallikarjun Kharge came down heavily on the BJD government in the state and the NDA government at the centre on Wednesday. 

The accused was identified as Mohan Kumar Parida, a resident of Kandagardi under Chandbali Police limits of Bhadrak. The EOW in a press release said the accused was produced at the designated OPID Court in Cuttack today.
