Bhadrak is a city of Odisha state in eastern India. It came into existence on 1 April 1993. According to legend, the city derives its name from the Goddess Bhadrakali whose temple is on the banks of the Salandi River. Dhamra, one of the deep draft ports of India which can accommodate super cape-size vessels is situated in Bhadrak. Bhadrak is also famous for Palua Ladu, special kind of sweet.

A police assistant sub-inspector was allegedly beaten by locals at Chudakuti Bazaar in Dhamnagar, Bhadrak, for reportedly arresting an 'innocent' person on Wednesday. The incident occurred when the ASI and a cop mistakenly picked up Bijay Gahana instead of the accused. Both officers were attacked by the mob until Dhamnagar SDPO intervened and rescued them. They were taken to Dhamnagar hospital for treatment. A betel shop owner has been detained in connection with the case.

Residents of Basudevpur in Bhadrak district, Odisha, detained seven individuals on Sunday suspecting them to be Bangladeshi nationals amid ongoing political turmoil in Bangladesh. The locals intercepted the suspects near Atal Bihari High School and informed Basudebpur police. In a separate incident, another suspected Bangladeshi was detained from Nalabanka chhak under Nayakanidihi police limits.

A rare and ancient Jain Tirthankara sculpture from the 7th or 8th century was discovered on the banks of Baitarani river in Odisha's Bhadrak district. Locals found the half-buried idol and informed researcher Bisambhar Rout. The statue, though damaged, displays 24 inscribed Tirthankaras.
