Three bikers were killed by a speeding truck near Darlipali NTPC Power Plant in Odisha's Sundargarh. Locals protested by blocking roads, demanding the truck driver's arrest. The incident caused significant local outrage and disruptions.
Responding to the mishap, Additional Commissioner Transport/(Road Safety), Lal Mohan Sethi on Tuesday said that the accident happened due to negligence of the bus driver.
Another person injured in the mishap has reportedly been admitted to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.
The deceased and the injured persons belong to a family. The critically injured were said to be a woman, her mother-in-law and the driver of the car. They were travelling in a car from Goa to Howrah, preliminary reports said.
Sources said the incident occurred while the villagers were returning home after watching a dance festival organised on the occasion of Dola Purnima.
According to sources, the three deceased were going on a motorbike when they lost balance on their two-wheeler and rammed into a truck.
“I can’t even imagine how much the hospital will charge when they fix her brain. We are waiting for her to stabilize a bit to do further operations, she already had two cardiac arrests,” informed her friend Remyaa.
All the injured have been admitted to Kundura community health center (CHC). The critical will be shifted to Jeypore or Koraput after preliminary treatment at the CHC.

As per reports, the bus was en route to Bhadrak from Sambalpur when it collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction on National Highway 53.
A woman died and eight others were injured after the school bus they were travelling in met with an accident at Mantriamba ghat under Baipariguda Police limits in Koraput district on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the driver of the bus has been detained and further investigation is being carried out by police in connection with the accident.
The injured people were admitted to Dharmagarh, Junagarh and Bhawanipatna hospitals.
Following the accident, Majhi was rushed to Umerkote Hospital and was discharged after primary treatment, sources said.
Sources said, the tourists from West Bengal’s Bankura had been to Puri. The incident occurred while they were on their way back home. Midway the vehicle’s tyre burst, leading to the mishap.
