Bhadrak is a city of Odisha state in eastern India. It came into existence on 1 April 1993. According to legend, the city derives its name from the Goddess Bhadrakali whose temple is on the banks of the Salandi River. Dhamra, one of the deep draft ports of India which can accommodate super cape-size vessels is situated in Bhadrak. Bhadrak is also famous for Palua Ladu, special kind of sweet.
In Bhadrak, an 11 KV wire snapped on a farmer and he got electrocuted leading to his untimely death. The incident led to a major fire and protests by locals demanding compensation. Two acres of farmland was completely gutted in the incident.
A youth identified as Jyoti Ranjan Das allegedly set his ex-girlfriend's house ablaze in Anandpur village of Bhadrak district after a breakup. Property worth Rs 15 lakh were destroyed in the blaze. Police are investigating into the allegations.

The Bhadrak district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in Godipokhari village and nearby areas following a group clash that injured four people. The orders are effective from 2.00 PM on September 19 to 10 PM on September 21. The IIC Dhusuri police station will enforce the prohibition, with the Tahasildar, Dhamanagar acting as Executive Magistrate.
