Bhadrak Unrest: Don’t get agitated over social media posts, says Odisha DGP
Odisha Police DG YB Khurania on Tuesday appealed to people not to get agitated or make comments on objectionable social media posts. Rather people should inform the matter to their local police, said the DGP after reviewing the Bhadrak unrest situation at Dhamnagar. The DGP further stated that there is nothing to panic for the people as adequate measures have been taken to restore normalcy.
“On September 27, an incident took place in Dhamnagar, five cases have been registered and several persons have been arrested. I have interacted with senior police and district administration officials. The situation is almost normalised and regular patrolling by police and RAF is on. The situation is likely to get back to normalcy in the next two to three days,” said DGP YB Khurania.
The DGP further stated that it has been observed that several posts are coming on social media. “Whenever people come across any objectionable content, they should inform local police. People should not get agitated after seeing such social media posts as information and misinformation is being spread on social media,” said the DGP.
The Odisha DGP held discussions with senior police officials at Dhamnagar today. So far 27 persons, including 10 from Bhadrak and 17 from Dhamnagar have been arrested.
Mobile internet services remain suspended and 16 platoons of police force and one company of Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in Bhadrak to maintain law and order. Similarly, six platoons of police force have been deployed at Dhamnagar.
