Irate women in front of police station
Seeking arrest of the miscreants, who allegedly attacked the villagers during an immersion procession, irate women of Tala Sahi of Harasinghpur under Pirhat police limits in Bhadrak district gheraoed the police station police station on Thursday night.
As per reports, the villagers of Tala Sahi were taking out an immersion procession of Goddess Jagaddhatri when some miscreants of nearby Mohanty Sahi village stopped the procession. When the youths of the village opposed, they were beaten up. On receiving information, the police visited the spot and brought the situation under control.
However, the police haven’t arrested anyone in this connection.
Over 70 women of Tala Sahi assembled at the police station. They gheraoed the station, demanding the arrest of the miscreants.
“As our immersion procession was proceeding, a youth from Mohanty Sahi arrived and opposed a drummer. This led to an altercation between them. Later the former attacked the latter. When our village youths came to the drummer's rescue, they too were attacked. Today, we gheraoed the police station, demanding action against the miscreants,” said an agitating woman.
Seconding her, another woman said, “We were taking out the procession peacefully when the incident occurred. We don’t know what enmity they had with our youths.”
Later, IIC Ajay Kumar Murmu and his team reached the spot. The angry women called off their demonstration only when IIC Murmu assured them of action as per the law.
