Her husband Prabhakar Rout attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon, leading to her death on the spot. Soon after the incident, police rushed to the spot and started an investigation into the matter.

Speaking to the media, Khageswar Behera, the uncle of the deceased said, "The couple had a dispute for two years. Their dispute was supposed to be settled by the State Commission for Women on June 5. I took my niece to the booth for voting. Her husband pushed her down from the verandah of the school before attacking her with a sharp-edged weapon. The exact reason for the dispute is not known to me. The day her husband received a notice from the State Commission for Women, he has been angry with her.”

He also alleged that the attack on her took place in the presence of police.

However, no police reaction was received.
