The Odisha BJP has alleged that Rs 50,000 crore was misappropriated annually in the name of 5T during BJD's rule. The claims were made in its political resolution passed at the State Executive Committee meeting in Puri.

Odisha's Education Minister Nityananda Gond vows strict action against anyone found involved in the corruption in the 5T School initiative.

"The entire administrative system turned into a 'Police Raj' system. Those who were opposing and not bowing down were facing police action, Vigilance raids and getting harassed."

Local residents alleged that the money meant for stadium construction was siphoned off.

In 2020, the then BDO of Jashipur block had lodged a written complaint against 25 persons at Jashipur police station.

Devotees as well as servitors have demanded a Vigilance probe into the alleged corruption to the tune of crores of rupees in erecting temporary barricades for devotees in front of Puri Srimandir.

“The Opposition parties are gradually in splits and heading for the verge of collapse. The entire nation has now put a question mark on their policies, activities and leadership,” the BJP MP added.

With the recently-received RTI report suggesting how a huge amount of money could have been pocketed in the name of plantations at seven places under flyovers and Shikharchandi hill, political heat went up by several notches with the Congress and the BJP targeting the ruling BJD. 

When the president of the Khaprakhol Block Sarpanch Association, Sushil Guru opposed the irregularities, the SDO of the Public works department, Siddharth Das allegedly attacked the former on Tuesday.

Launching an attack on the block administration, Puri Sadar MLA Jayant Sarangi said that there is no transparency in official work and project implementation while the roots of corruption have been spreading from the block office to the villages.

Odisha Vigilance has also charge-sheeted 551 accused persons in 321 corruption cases, acquiring third place in the country. 

Samuels, who was charged by the ICC (in its capacity as the Designated Anti-Corruption Official under the ECB Code) in September 2021, was found guilty by the Tribunal in August this year for four offences, the ICC release read.

The matter was related to the recruitment of contractual teachers in the state. The case was filed by a job aspirant, Sangeeta Kumari, and the high court gave the decision on September 9.

The TDP chief was arrested at around 6 a.m. in the morning by the CID team headed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Dhananjayudu.

After targeting the BJD over the 5T secretary’s visit to different districts and his viral photo with the 'tainted' ADM yesterday, the BJP stepped up its attack on Sunday, demanding raids on the properties of class one officers in the state.
