Free entry or expensive pass! Do fans really need to pay for Kapil Sharma’s live show?
Kapil Sharma is one of India’s most recognisable comedians, famed for quick wit, spontaneous humour and punchlines that connect with everyday audiences. His television and streaming programmes- from Comedy Nights with Kapil to The Kapil Sharma Show and the current Netflix venture- have become staples of Indian entertainment, regularly featuring film stars, athletes and prominent personalities. His popularity also reaches beyond India: international fans often travel to Mumbai hoping to catch a live studio recording.
With such demand, claims occasionally emerge that studio passes are being sold- sometimes with figures as high as Rs 4,999 quoted online. Those reports are not accurate. Kapil Sharma and media clarifications have made it clear that studio audience entry is free and there are no legitimate public ticket sales for fans. The comedian has warned viewers about fraudulent websites and agents that claim to sell entry passes.
Actor Vikalp Mehta, who has worked on a few episodes, recently addressed the rumours on the YTMahendra Podcast YouTube channel. He confirmed that audiences are not charged to appear.
He said, “I am not a hundred per cent sure, but as far as I know, no money is charged to be on the show.” Mehta explained production needs and logistics, describing why some faces are retained in the audience during long shoots.
Mehta detailed the shoot routine and said, “For instance, the shoot starts at 10 am, and it will go on till 8 pm or perhaps till 11 pm, so they need the same faces in the audience who can be professional and sit in the same place for these many hours and clap with just as much enthusiasm. They need audiences that will take instructions from them. They pay that audience and fill up the room. It’s the same with most TV shows. They are provided with food and water.”
According to Mehta, while some audience members are young artistes who are paid to keep energy consistent, many others attend as invited guests. Reiterating that fans are not required to pay, he dismissed ticket-sale claims bluntly and said, “Voh scam hai, vaisa koi hai hi nahi system (That is deception. That system does not exist).”
Kapil Sharma is currently hosting The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix, which premiered in June this year. The series includes performers such as Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda and Sunil Grover, with Archana Puran Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu appearing as special guests.
