Crop loss, loan burden force Bolangir farmer to end life
Bolangir: There is no let-up in the farmer suicide cases in Odisha with another farmer killing himself in Bolangir district on Wednesday morning.
Reports said the deceased, identified as Srikant Selema of Aenlapalli area under Puintala block, had taken a loan of Rs 35,000 from local money lenders to grow paddy on his three-acre land and vegetables on one-acre land.
Let down by crop loss and loan burden, Selema consumed pesticide on Tuesday night. He was admitted to district headquarters hospital in serious condition, sources said.
Selema died this morning while undergoing treatment at the government-run hospital, sources added.
