Two Rubella and one measles cases have been detected in two blocks of Odisha's Nabarangpur district, confirmed health officials on Wednesday. The samples were taken from five affected persons on April 29, and the reports have tested positive for rubella.

Malaya Tripathy, in-charge CDMO Nabarangpur said, “The cases among children have been detected from Nandahandi and Tentulikhunti areas after testing of samples. Though it is not fatal among children, pregnant women are vulnerable as there could be congenital rubella syndrome among their children along with heart diseases, cataracts and mental retardness.”

Official sources said that from tests, already Scrub typhus has been ruled out. “Two blocks in Nabarangpur have been affected where cases with fever with rashes have been detected,” said Health Director Bijay Mohapatra.

According to Mohapatra, two cases of rubella and measles have been detected after tests. Though the Scrub typhus test had earlier come negative, RRTs are on the ground and keeping a close watch. The samples have been sent to ICMR for examination.
