Mohan Charan Majhi's name was announced as the Chief Minister of Odisha after the BJP legislature party meeting held in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. 

The new Odisha Chief Minister will be sworn in at a grand ceremony attended by PM Modi on June 12 at Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar.

Two newly-inducted Union cabinet ministers have been appointed as observers to pick the Chief Minister for Odisha.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new Odisha Chief Minister, originally scheduled for June 10, has been postponed to June 12, 2024. This change accommodates PM Narendra Modi's schedule, who will also attend the event at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.

Besides the name of state BJP President Manmohan Samal, the names of newly elected Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan, Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra, Patnagarh MLA Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Brajarajnagar MLA Suresh Pujari are also doing the rounds for the most coveted post of Odisha's new Chief Minister.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the BJD government in Odisha at an election rally, highlighting poor governance, job migration and lack of employment. He promised that BJP would create jobs while attacking BJD leader VK Pandian for monopolising power with his spouse.

Biswa Sarma gave an ultimatum to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s close aide VK Pandian to find the missing keys of Ratna Bhandar by June 10. He also said that if the BJD government fails to find the missing keys, BJP will find the keys after the party forms government in Odisha on June 10.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma targeted the state government while raising several issues including the disappearance of the Ratna Bhandar key and labour migration issues. 

While addressing a huge public meeting at Kalimela in Malkangiri as the star campaigner of BJP, Biswa Sarma urged the people of the constituency to vote for BJP both in the Assembly and Lok Sabha segments to facilitate a double-engine government.

Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai lambasted the BJD for treating tribals as a vote bank without fostering their development. He highlighted the non-implementation of central schemes like Ayushman Bharat in Odisha, promising rapid progress under the prospective BJP-led 'double-engine' government.

BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra said that political statements should be confined to election issues. “Our priority is the development of the state. Sensitive issues should not be sensationalised. It will damage the reputation of the state. That should not be done. The Chief Minister has appealed to the opposition parties to carry forward the development works,” he added.   

Bhajan Lal is the first CM in the state who took oath on his birthday.

Debendra Sahoo, general secretary of Bus Owners Association lamented that the planning to operate MO buses and LAccMI buses on various inter-city routes will make it difficult for private bus operators to survive.
