Plus 2 girl student 'drugged and gang raped' in Odisha; 8 detained

In a shocking incident, a Plus 2 girl student was allegedly gang raped by her friends in Odisha's Berhampur.

As per the allegations, around three days ago, the girl had gone to the home of one of her friends where she was drugged and gang raped by the eight accused.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident at Baidyanathpur Police Station in Berhampur.

Acting on the complaint of the minor girl student, police have reportedly detained all the eight accused for questioning.

Sharing information, Berhampur SP Sarthak Sarangi said, “On May 5, a minor girl alleged that she was sexually assaulted by 5 to 6 persons. The incident occurred on May 3 when one of her acquaintances, who is a major, took her to a private boys hostel where his friends took turns on her after spiking her drink.”

When the victim gained consciousness, one of the accused threatened her not to reveal the incident.

“Two days later, a complaint in connection with the incident was registered and subsequently five persons were arrested including the prime accused who had taken her to the boys' hostel. The accused have confessed to the crime,” said the Berhampur SP.

The accused, who had taken the victim to the hostel, knew her and further investigation in connection with the incident is underway.

As the victim is a minor, a case under POCSO Act has been registered. The statement of the victim has been recorded as per the provisions of the law.

The investigation in this connection is underway to ascertain the involvement of others in the crime, Sarangi added.
