The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in different parts of Odisha in the coming days.

As per the IMD, Odisha will continue to experience thunderstorm-related activities till May 13, 2024. This is likely to bring down mercury, thereby providing some comfort to people from the scorching heat and humid conditions.

Already several parts of the state have been experiencing thunderstorm activities for the past 48 hours. Koraput recorded the highest 24 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, informed the IMD.

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 09.05.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Ganjam.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 09.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 10.05.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Balasore.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 10.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 11.05.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh, Boudh, Deogarh, Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 11.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 12.05.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore.
