Mayurbhanj district the largest district of Odisha by area of 10,418 km². Mayurbhanj district shares it boundary to Jharkhand and West Bengal. Thick green forests, extensive meadows, twinkling waterfalls, meandering rivers, high peaks – entire diversity of nature is in one place. It was once the hunting place of the Maharaja of Mayurbhanj. Mayurbhanj is best known for Simlipal National Park which is the 7th largest national park in India. It is also considered as one of the main tiger project in India and UNESCO listed Biosphere Reserves. The park is home to Bengal tiger, Asian elephant, gaur, and chausingha. The undulating terrain and its perennial sources of water are the two striking features of the entire area. Even the quality of the forest in the buffer zone at Similipal is superior to most other forests in the country. Mudhi (puffed rice) and Mansa (mutton) combination is a popular food in the district.
In Mayurbhanj, a person died after being stung by bees at Kharambeda village under Bisoi Police Station on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Krushna Munda.
As many as 15 persons have been detained by the police for smuggling the wildlife product. Police have also seized three bikes and other incriminating materials from their possession

The authorities said that most trails in the park have become slushy under the impact of rainfall for last few days and thick blanket of fog engulfing the national park could become dangerous for the travelers or safari, so it has been decided to keep visitors away from the biosphere reserve.
The famous Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district is all set to welcome back tourists this year from November 1.
Protesting the incident, hundreds of JMM workers today used placards with slogans against BJD during their agitation and placed them near Biju Patnaik's statue. Even though the police were present at the spot, it has been alleged that it did not stop the protesters.

Dr Dhananjay Soren, a doctor at Sukruli CHC said, “The woman was admitted to the hospital by the Fire Services staff at around 7 pm. The survivor told us that she had been gang-raped by two men. She has received critical injuries on her head and private parts. She has been given primary treatment here,” he added.
