In yet another incident of man-elephant conflict, an elderly couple was trampled to death by a herd of elephants. The incident was reported from Nimapur village in Jagatpur area of Cuttack district in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The herd had been on a rampage since last night, damaging a number of vehicles and houses.
The irate villagers demanded that the jumbos be chased away from their village and suitable compensation for the damaged crops provided to them.
Not only automated text, but voice messages are also being sent to a selected database of phone numbers of people from different villages where the movement of elephants is more frequent.
Elephant face-offs with villagers take place in the same places year after year. This shows no preventive solution adopted. Change in crop pattern will do wonder
