In 1st April, 1993 Kendrapara District was created form the mother District Cuttack. The District covers an area of 2, 644 sq km. It has the second largest mangrove ecosystem in the country and home to saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) the largest Indian Lizard at Bhitarkanika National Park. As per the prediction of all models (IMD to US, Europe and Japan), Yaas will make landfall between Kendrapada and Bhadrak on May 26 in the morning to afternoon hours.

It is situated about 600 km north-northwest of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 540 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 650 km south-southeast of Balasore (Odisha) and 630 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal), as per the latest bulletin issued by the IMD.

The developing cyclonic storm 'Yaas' will most-probably make landfall somewhere between Odisha's Paradip and Sagar Islands, the southern-most part of West Bengal. The Director General of India Meteorological Department Mrutyunjay Mohapatra made the major announcement on Sunday.
The structure of Cyclone Yaas is made so that its disastrous impact will be felt in the sea and then on landfall place. Eastern and southern part of Yaas packed with knocking downwind and intense clouds.
Odisha’s Covid caseload jumped to 67,9530 on Saturday with 11,108 new cases having been reported in the last 24 hours.
Odisha will see cyclone Yaas rain from the night of May 25. On landfall day, Balasore will record gusting wind at 100kmph. Bhubaneswar may record 60kmph gusting wind.
Ahead of the impending cyclone Yaas which is likely to hit Odisha coast later next week, administration in the coastal Odisha districts of Jajpur and Kendrapara held preparatory meetings to deal with the situation, on Friday.
As per Regional Specialised Metrological Centre, New Delhi, there is convergence among all models that cyclone ‘Yaas’ will take north west course. This is where Odisha comes into picture.
Along with the lockdown, the weekend shutdown will be remain in force in the weekends starting from 6 pm of Fridays to 5 am on Mondays in Odisha.
With today’s surge, the Covid-19 positive tally in Odisha rose to 6,33,302 while the death toll jumped to 2,357, informed the H&FW Department.
