Kendrapara: The Special Task Force of Odisha Crime Branch arrested two associates of notorious gangster Tito alias Seikh Usman Ali in connection with a land grabbing case registered in 2018.

The accused duo has been identified as Sayed Saddam Ali and his elder cousin brother Sayed Jahed Ali.

They were accused of a case related to land encroachment at Gopa Chhak in Kendrapara district.

A case had been registered with STF against 22 persons including Tito in this connection. Police had arrested eight accused in the case earlier while the duo was absconding.

“The duo was on the run since 2018 by giving a slip to the police. They were aides of the prime accused Sayed Usman Ali (Tito) in the land grabbing case. Under the direction of Tito, they had terrorised people at gunpoint,” Public Prosecutor Niranjan Dhal said.

A joint team of STF and Kendrapara Town police arrested them, he added.

They were produced before the court of Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDJM) which sent them to Kendrapara jail by rejecting their bail petition.
“They were arrested under section 447,506, 120-B, 34 of IPC, section 25 and 27 of Arms Act. We have moved the bail petition in the court,” said Anant Charan Khatua, lawyer of the accused.

According to sources, Tito and his associates had forcibly occupied land worth over Rs 1 crore. They had allegedly threatened to murder the landowner after he protested the move.
