In the wake of the controversy surrounding the alleged concealing of Covid deaths in the State, the Odisha Government on Tuesday sought to clarify by stating that the death figures updated by the government every day is not based on the fatalities reported on a particular day.
The Odisha Health Department today attributed the rising single-day fatality figures to a lag period between infection and deaths even as the daily positive cases are stable in the State.
Odisha reported 46 fatalities due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours taking the virus toll to 4,109 even as 3,222 people tested positive for the virus during the period pushing the cumulative positive tally to 91,6109 in the State.
The single-day Covid-19 fatalities continue to remain above 40 even as the daily case count has been witnessing a dip for last several days in Odisha.
Odisha on Thursday reported its highest single day death toll due to Covid infection with as many as 25 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours. Maintaining a steady rate of infection positivity, the State also witnessed over 11K new Coronavirus cases in the past one day.
