Customer ‘assaulted’ inside HDFC Bank in Cuttack; branch manager among accused

Tension gripped an HDFC Bank branch on Mahatab Road in Cuttack after a customer was beaten inside the premises allegedly by the branch manager, staff, and a security guard.

The incident, which left the customer injured and bleeding, took place on September 3 and was captured on the branch’s CCTV cameras, the footage of which was obtained by the Commissionerate Police today.

Complaint Filed At Badambadi Police Station

According to sources, the victim, identified as Deepak Jena of the Mahatab Road area, lodged a complaint at Badambadi police station soon after the incident.

Jena alleged that despite multiple visits, the bank did not process his Aadhaar seeding request. When he approached the branch manager to ask why his request was being withheld, a heated argument ensued.

According to the complaint, the manager, supported by other staff and the security guard, allegedly attacked him inside the office.

CCTV Evidence Collected By Police

Police sources stated that Jena was left with visible injuries and had to seek medical attention. Based on his complaint, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law.

Officers seized the CCTV footage from inside the branch and began examining the visuals to verify Jena’s allegations. The branch officials are expected to be summoned for questioning as part of the probe.

Eyewitness Accounts Support Allegations

Reports mentioned that other customers present inside the branch at the time witnessed the scuffle. Eyewitnesses said Jena was dragged to the floor and repeatedly hit.

Though several people saw the incident unfold, none reportedly intervened, and the matter escalated until Jena managed to leave the bank premises and approach the police.

Victim’s Family Demands Strict Action

Jena’s family members have demanded immediate and strict action against the bank officials involved. They alleged that instead of addressing a genuine customer grievance, the staff resorted to violence, which not only caused physical harm but also raised serious questions about accountability in private banks.

Further, his relatives accompanied him while filing the police complaint, pressing for charges against all those involved.

Despite the seriousness of the case, the concerned bank has not yet issued an official response. Attempts by reporters to seek clarification from branch authorities were unsuccessful.
